Blizzard?Entertainment‘s popular team-based?first-person shooter?title,?Overwatch?has been officially confirmed to be in active development. The information is sourced from Bloomberg journalist?Jason Schreier’s new book.
Overwatch is finally making its way to mobile
Bloomberg journalist, Jason Schreier confirmed the development of Overwatch Mobile and Overwatch 2 updates in his latest book,?Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future Of Blizzard Entertainment.
Schreier interviewed over 300 employees, current and former about Blizzard Entertainment’s rise and abrupt fall. He uncovered everything from the?mass layoffs?to the?various lawsuits?against?NetEase Games?that the company was facing. The book also discloses various plans for Overwatch that were abandoned, such as a?Netflix adaptation?that was cancelled due to Blizzard suing Netflix.
Putting aside all the bad news, Schreier finally confirmed that Blizzard Entertainment is working on a mobile version of Overwatch, ending years of speculations among fans. According to him, Overwatch’s General Manager?Walter Kong?is leading this project.
Overwatch mobile rumours aren’t new, but active development news gives hope to fans
While Schreier’s book doesn’t specify when Overwatch Mobile will be released, it confirms that it is in active development. It is also unclear whether the mobile project will be a port of Overwatch 2, a new sequel, or a completely new experience.

Back in 2022, Blizzard’s?job postings?indicated that a potential Overwatch Mobile might be in development, but that didn’t go anywhere. As reports popped up about Microsoft and Activision?teaming up to develop ‘AA’ games?based on existing IP within Blizzard earlier this year, there were again discussions of Overwatch mobile.
Currently, the closest to the?Overwatch-like experience?we have on mobile is?T3 Arena. It’s very uncertain whether Overwatch Mobile will achieve the same success as?Call of Duty Mobile?and?Warzone Mobile, or does not bear fruit like?Apex Legends Mobile. Fans are?calling?for an RPG version of the game to explore and justify the franchise’s rich lore. Only time will tell.
